The School of Education seeks to challenge students intellectually helping them to engage with different philosophical narratives and perspectives. A large range of both public and private schools in Auckland are available for placement opportunities throughout the programme, giving students a diverse experience of classrooms and approaches to teaching.

Our Expectations

Graduating students will be outstanding teachers qualified to work in both primary and intermediate, state and private schools, throughout New Zealand. They will know what to teach; know about learners and how they learn; understand how contextual factors influence teaching and learning; plan for a safe high-quality teaching and learning environment; use evidence to promote learning; develop positive relationships with learners and colleagues; and be committed to a Christian worldview approach to their teaching and learning.

Programme Summary

An accredited qualification recognised by the New Zealand Teachers' Council, the Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) & Worldview Studies is the beginning of a lifetime of serving the leaders of tomorrow.

The Bachelor of Teaching (Primary) & Worldview Studies at Laidlaw College is a practical and dynamic programme focused on developing primary school teachers capable of inspiring the next generation to reach personal excellence on behalf of the well-being of society. We have a practical and reflective approach, exposing students to a wide range of teaching theories and strategies, challenging students to commit to a biblically consistent response in their teaching practice.

The programme is made up of three strands:

Education World
Curriculum Studies
Professional Practice

An in-depth Biblical approach to the study of worldviews and philosophies shaping the world, particularly the educational world.

This strand prepares the student teacher to plan, teach and evaluate all curriculum areas appropriate to pre-secondary schools in New Zealand.

Putting theory into practice - developing as a reflective practitioner within the classroom setting.
