Following Christ faithfully in our ever-changing everyday world.

Jesus taught us to love God and love our neighbour. This sounds simple but with the world we live in rapidly changing in so many ways where do we start? Who is our neighbour? Where are they? And how do we engage faithfully with them? Our neighbours hold differing worldviews, cultures, and are not only those we meet over the fence or at the supermarket, but are also in our online digital spaces. We’ll be exploring how we engage in a gospel way in some of these neighbourhoods.

Graduates from a variety of contexts (the workplace, church ministry, cross-cultural mission, counselling, education) will be reflecting on their own experiences of engaging with the world.

Keynote Speakers

Stephen Garner completed his Bachelor of Divinity at BCNZ in 2001. Doctoral studies followed, with research focussing on theology in dialogue with science, technology, new media and popular culture. Along the way Stephen taught and worked at BCNZ, Carey Baptist College, Good Shepherd College and in the School of Theology at the University of Auckland. Stephen joined Laidlaw as Head of School – Theology in 2014, and this year is also the Co-Chair of Laidlaw’s Senior Leadership Team. A central theme of Stephen’s research and teaching is that theology must engage with the everyday communities we find ourselves in, seeking to offer something distinctly gospel to church and world.

Our Graduates! Many of our alumni are making a real difference in the contributions they’re making to society here in Aotearoa NZ and beyond. We’ve invited a number of them to come and talk about how they’re engaging with culture in their own context.
