Sustain: Progressing as a Woman in Leadership
A conversation with Helen Green

How would you describe the factors that have shaped your journey as a leader?

At this online Sustain gathering Helen Green will share her insights on progressing as a woman in leadership. Helen brings a wealth of experience in the health and international development sectors, in both high-level management and governance at an international level.

Helen served as CEO of World Vision from 2000-2006. For the past 15 years she has worked in governance and consulting roles in both NZ and in global organisations providing both international and national leadership guidance in countries as diverse as Afghanistan, India, Laos, Rwanda, DR Congo, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Gaza. While at World Vision, Helen was part of a working group for the strategic direction of the work of World Vision International. This senior leadership group provided information, discussion and strategic advice to the international president on the work worldwide.  Initially Helen was the only woman participating on this group and as such had a strong responsibility for upholding gender issues and ensuring greater inclusion.

In addition to her global work, Helen is a trustee on the boards of Longview Trust and Parachute Music. She has been married to Peter Green for 45 years, and together they have 2 adult girls, both now married and with children.
