A Conversation with Dr Rocio Figueroa Alvear

We are delighted to have Dr Rocio Figueroa Alvear as our guest at our online meeting for Christian women in leadership. Rocio is a Peruvian Theologian and lectures in Systematic Theology at Good Shepherd College in Auckland and is an External Researcher at the Centre for Theology and Public Issues at Otago University, New Zealand. 

Introducing Rocio

For more than 20 years Rocio belonged to a Catholic Peruvian congregation and was its General Coordinator for nine years and formator of leaders. She did her doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. Rocio worked in the Holy See as head of the Women’s section in the Pontifical Council for the Laity promoting women's participation within the Church. Working at the University UPAEP in Puebla Mexico she led the social project  “Learn and grow” promoting women leadership in indigenous communities. She has lectured Catholic leaders and seminarians in Peru, Italy, Mexico and NZ.  Rocio's present research focus is theological and pastoral responses for survivors of Church sexual abuse. She advocates for victims of sexual abuse within the Church.
