Professor Richard Bauckham in Auckland!
In August 2014, one of the world’s leading biblical scholars – Professor Richard Bauckham – visited New Zealand! Along with co-hosting a conference (“Jesus in Context”) and a free public lecture (“The Case of the Historical Jesus”) presented by Professor Richard Bauckham and held at Carey Baptist College, Laidlaw College was privileged to host this renowned scholar on our Henderson campus on two different occasions.
On Thursday 7 August, about 80 people attended an afternoon with Professor Richard Bauckham, where he presented two richly fascinating lectures on “The Authenticity of the Apostolic Eyewitness in the New Testament” and then “Mark's Geography and the Origin of Mark's Gospel.”
On Saturday 9 August, Laidlaw Graduate School, in partnership with A Rocha Aotearoa New Zealand, hosted Professor Bauckham in the Upper Room at Laidlaw’s Henderson campus, for an evening intriguingly entitled “Jesus and the Wild”. Drawing from Jesus’ wilderness experience, Bauckham spoke theologically of the coming of the Messianic age and the restoration of creation, reminding us of the present cosmic implications of the coming of Jesus for Christian involvement in creation – a vital issue for our time.
If you missed out on hearing Professor Richard Bauckham speak, don’t worry! You can watch both the Thursday and Saturday events (mentioned above) on video. Simply click play on the three videos below and enjoy!
