Henderson Campus Subdivision
The Laidlaw College Foundation has entered into a long term lease for the western portion of the Henderson campus with Ryman Healthcare who plan to build a new retirement village on the land. The village will offer a full range of aged care services including serviced apartments, and resthome, hospital and dementia care.
This lease is the culmination of over seven years of prayer, delight, at times frustration, and sheer hard work by members of both the Laidlaw College Foundation and Laidlaw College. This project will enable capital to be invested for the future benefit of Laidlaw.
Work has been ongoing since late December on the campus to allow the subdivision to occur. Some demolition work of existing buildings has occurred to clear a boundary line between the two properties and new utilities have been installed across the campus. The College will still be providing some accommodation options on the eastern portion of the land, with ten houses, our East Wing studio block and a re-commissioning of our former men’s wing as self-catering accommodation for single students.
Graham Burt, Chairman of Laidlaw’s National Governing Council, notes that this outcome is a real answer to prayer. “To see this finally coming to fruition, and also to see, with the full benefit of hindsight, God's hand carefully guiding all the twists and turns is rather humbling. God is indeed good. Very good. This is a very positive and enabling step for the College community as a whole.”
