Phil Newman Chief Operating Officer

  • BA, Dip FS

Phil took up his role as Chief Operating Officer of Laidlaw College in July 2021. As part of the leadership team, he supports the ongoing development of Laidlaw College across strategy, people leadership, systems improvement, business management and the delivery of programmes.

This involves working across the organisation, enabling teams to be the best they can be, and finding new ways to collaborate so that Laidlaw grows and develops into the future.

Phil has a B.A. in Social Anthropology and International Development from Massey University, a Diploma in Financial Services from Deakin University and was previously a Certified Financial Planner.

Phil’s work background combines financial services, business experience, international NGO programme implementation, organisational leadership, and relationship management.

With experience working internationally and locally in not-for-profit leadership roles, Phil has been CE of Transparency International Australia and Director of Programmes, Tearfund NZ. Most recently, Phil was the Kaitohutohu Matua | Chief Advisor | Pou Whakahaere | Manager Open Government with Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission.

Phil and his wife Suzie have lived in Australia and Vietnam and now reside in Titirangi. They attend Titirangi Baptist Church.  They enjoy international travel (when possible!), walking Auckland (soon with dogs) and, at present, renovating their home.
