Pasifika Student Support Advisor

The Opportunity

We have an exciting opportunity for a Pasifika Student Support Advisor to join our Student Support team. The location of this role is at both our Henderson and Manukau campuses.

You’ll be working to provide student support to our Pasifika students across all of our study programmes, enhancing their experience and aiding their successful completion of courses. Your experience in building trusted relationships and your proactive and caring support will be critical to ensuring their academic success.

You will report to the Student Support Manager and work with the wider staff team including Student Services, our Pasifika Ambassador and Lecturers. This is a part time permanent role (16 hours across 4 days a week). Specific days and hours of work across the two campuses will be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting Pasifika students through the enquiry, application, enrolment, and orientation stages of admission to Laidlaw College
  • Supporting Pasifika students to successfully navigate their educational journey by helping them engage with academic processes
  • Providing pastoral care and referring students to counselling services as necessary

Who We’re Looking For

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong commitment to the vision and mission of Laidlaw College
  • Understanding and experience of Pasifika cultures and values
  • A Bachelor’s Degree (a Degree in Counselling, Education or Theology related fields is preferred, but not essential)
  • Well developed and confident interpersonal and communication skills
  • Thorough planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office applications, email, cloud and web-based systems)
  • The ability to work collaboratively within and across the Centre for Learning (CFL) team
