Education

Education is an exciting, dynamic and fulfilling field to be in. The employment pathways and opportunities within education are vast and include, but are not limited to, teaching in early childhood, primary and secondary school and church settings both in New Zealand and overseas. Teachers are in high demand in Aotearoa New Zealand. It’s a great time to become a teacher!

If you enjoy working with young people to inspire in them a love of learning, check out the details below and find out what Laidlaw College can offer through our three education programmes.

Bachelor of Education (Primary)

This three-year professional degree is approved by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand and focuses on uniquely preparing students to teach in primary, intermediate and middle schools in New Zealand and worldwide. If you enjoy working with young children aged 5 to 14 years of age, the Bachelor of Education (Primary) may be for you.

Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary)

This one-year graduate diploma is approved by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand and focuses on preparing students with a prior undergraduate qualification to teach in intermediate, middle and secondary schools in New Zealand and worldwide. This qualification will suit people who are excited by the idea of working alongside teenaged students and already have a Bachelor’s degree qualification.

In the constantly changing environment of the education sector, it is important for those working in the field to be engaged in professional development opportunities.

We are excited to offer a Postgraduate Certificate in Theology aimed at theological education. This qualification consists of 2 courses, one a semester (although they don’t have to be completed in one calendar year) offered via online zoom sessions, and a three-day intensive course.
