Engaging Theology
2026 | Semester 2 | July 13-Nov 13
Tuesday Nights | 6.30pm - 8.30pm
Engaging Theology is a course that examines all the biggest questions we ask about life. Who is God? How do we know him? How can we tell the truth about God from the lies? Why is the world in such a mess? What is going to happen in the future? The core foundation of Engaging Theology is that answers to these incredibly important questions are not found primarily through us searching for God, but through recognising that God has already searched for us. For God has revealed himself to us through his son, Jesus Christ. Most of the answers to really big questions start with Jesus. Through lots of discussion, thinking, and reflecting, this course explores the fundamentals of what Christians believe, and what difference it makes in our everyday lives.

POSTGRADUATE COURSE
Mental Health and Human Flourishing
2026 | Semester 2 | Block Course
Henderson Campus or via Distance on Zoom
Lecturers: Dr Sarah Penwarden & Rev. Dr Maja Whittaker
17-21 August 9am-5pm
Mental distress can be a common but challenging aspect of human experience, raising many questions for people of Christian faith. In this course, we seek to look such experiences squarely in the eye, holding them alongside the revelation of Christ as pain-bearer, ourselves as humans made in the image of a relational God, and the hope and challenges of the church.
This course will invite you to look at mental distress, focusing in particular on anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia, as well as the social stigma surrounding these lived experiences. By the end of the course, you will come to understand a theology of mental distress, as well as what human wellbeing and flourishing might look like. Through this course, you will also reflect on what a wise, compassionate, and informed pastoral response might be both within a community, church context, or individually.
Entry to a postgraduate Theology course requires an undergraduate degree or graduate diploma in Theology or a related area. However, special admission is possible for students with a Bachelor of Counselling where this has included some study in theology. These students could be enrolled into a Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) – a stand-alone theology course.
