Cameron joined the counselling programme as a Lecturer in January 2026. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Counselling) from the University of Auckland and is a Member of the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.
Cameron has worked as a counsellor since 2009 and brings extensive experience in secondary school settings, including leadership roles. In 2018, he expanded his work into private practice while continuing part-time school counselling, and began offering professional supervision.
Originally trained as a secondary school teacher, Cameron gained his Diploma of Teaching and Learning from the Christchurch College of Education and completed a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science at the University of Canterbury. His background in education and pastoral care informs his relational, developmentally attuned approach to counselling and teaching.
He is passionate about the space counsellors hold for clients and how that space is created and shaped through practice. Cameron has significant experience working with young people and young adults, while also supporting clients across a diverse range of ages, genders, and cultural contexts. Areas of particular interest include grief and loss, transition and change, identity, and relationships and boundaries. A therapeutic modality he especially values is Sand Tray work.

Cameron grew up in Hastings, Hawke’s Bay, and has lived in Christchurch and Auckland before returning to Canterbury in 2018. He is married with two teenage children and a cocker spaniel named Digby.
He loves stories in all forms — books, films, games, and gaming — and has a deep (perhaps excessive) loyalty to the San Francisco 49ers and the NFL. He is fascinated by design, art, and music in all their expressions, and enjoys op-shopping for hidden treasures in need of redemption.
