Sam Forde Lecturer - Counselling

Sam is a lecturer in Laidlaw’s Counselling programme, based at the Henderson campus.

His background was in political studies and language teaching. In 2011, he embarked on a Graduate Diploma in Theology and, shortly after, followed Hannah into counselling training. He has since remained in the counselling space, previously in private practice and currently as a lecturer.

As a ‘third culture kid’ who grew up overseas in a missionary family, Sam enjoys [and endures] the effects of being an outsider: he is drawn to ideas and practices which invite critique of norms and expectations, and he is sensitive to people’s need to experience love and belonging. In his experience, Narrative Therapy and Person-Centred Therapy both line up neatly with these tendencies. They are modalities which open up space and invite bold and meaningful relating. So, lecturing in a programme which embraces these practices in creative ways which are faithful to the gospel is a great fit.

Sam is passionate about CrossFit and is a competitive poker player. He lives in Red Beach with his wife, Hannah, and their five children.
