Māori and Indigenous Theology

We are deeply committed to the people and culture of Aotearoa New Zealand. Our mission is not just to teach theology, but to do so in a way that is highly contextual, and aligned with the principles of the Te Tiriti ō Waitangi.

At Laidlaw College we believe the Gospel speaks powerfully into our unique cultural context and that learning should reflect the richness and diversity of Aotearoa. These commitments permeate our programmes of study.

In addition to our theological and cultural focus, we are proud to partner with Te Wānanga Ihorangi to support Te Reo Māori language reclamation. Through this partnership, we engage in the vital work of preserving and revitalising te reo Māori, ensuring that our education reflects and celebrates the language, culture, and heritage of this land.

"I found that Laidlaw had the best options in terms of Indigenous Theology. The lecturers were so knowledgeable and they made a real effort to connect us with other students - there was a real whānau vibe. What I studied has deepened my knowledge of Theology and te ao Māori."

Nicole Coffin - Theology Graduate (Distance)
