How to Verify or Certify your Documents

Before we can confirm your enrolment, we need to make sure your identity and qualifications are genuine. This helps us protect all students and meet government and academic requirements.

There are two ways you can have your documents checked — verified by Laidlaw (offered to domestic applicants/students for enrolment purposes only) or certified (for official uses).

Documents include:

  • Passport (full scan including your signature)
  • Birth Certificates
  • Driver's Licence (front and back)
  • All other IDs
  • Academic qualifications and transcripts

The people who can verify your documents:

  • Authorised staff at our Laidlaw Auckland or Christchurch campuses
  • Online verification with Laidlaw staff via a Zoom appointment
  • Authorised staff at one of our approved partner schools

The people who can certify your documents:

  • A Lawyer
  • A Notary Public
  • A Justice of the Peace
  • A Commissioner of Oaths
  • A Court Registrar or Deputy Registrar
  • A Member of Staff at a New Zealand Embassy

The authorised person must note on the copied document:

  1. “Certified true copy”
  2. His/her authority
  3. His/her name
  4. His/her signature
  5. His/her official stamp
  6. Certification must be done in English for it to be accepted
