Leaders Day Auckland

The story of Te Rongopai (the Gospel) in Aotearoa is full of amazing hope, despite its brokenness.

Laidlaw Centre for Church Leadership invites you to join us for this one-day conference dedicated to exploring what it could mean to do ‘mission’ differently in New Zealand. Gain fresh insights into the to the intricate tapestry of Te Rongopai (the Gospel) - moving beyond identity politics, and discovering the power of whakapapa – while finding our place in God's story.

We believe it’s possible for the Church to find renewed energy and possibility in mission by thinking deeply together. Mission to and among Māori is sometimes reduced to a focus on identity, or seen as a pragmatic goal for increasing numbers. During this conference, you will experience a different approach. Mission is about participation in God’s story in this land, and each person and part of the Church has a vital role to play.

Instead of focusing on group identity, and whose identity takes precedence, we will instead focus on the concept of whakapapa. This invites us to remember what God has done in the past, to be attentive to where we come from spiritually, which in turn will help us to develop new approaches to mission and ministry.

Hosted by Rev. Dr Clint Ussher and Rev. Dr Maja Whitaker.
