Our Mission: To equip students and scholars to renew their communities with a faith as intelligent as it is courageous.

The Roles

Laidlaw College is looking to recruit up to two new faculty in our School of Theology to start in 2025, including an Interdiscplinary Theology Lecturer/Senior Lecturer and a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (New Testament). We are looking for Christian leaders who love teaching, research, and are motivated by the opportunity to join a collaborative team. Our ideal applicants will be Lecturers who live what they teach. They will thrive on opportunities to contribute their experience and expertise to the strengthening of relationships and partnerships with Aotearoa New Zealand churches and communities.

We invite expressions of interest from scholars, lecturers and emerging and established leaders across these theological disciplines who share our commitment to forming evangelical leaders.

Interdisciplinary Theology Lecturer/Senior Lecturer

As an expert in theology and an area of applied focus such as pastoral leadership, formation and/or spirituality, you will oversee the practical, pastoral, and applied aspects of our Theology degree programme. This role is part of the Theology Leadership Team. A strong pastoral/church leadership background is essential, as is strong experience in research and supervision in your area of applied focus. You will enjoy nurturing and building relationships with churches and will proactively represent Laidlaw in Aotearoa New Zealand church networks.

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (New Testament)

As a New Testament specialist, you will be an integral member of the Laidlaw biblical studies team, teaching existing courses and developing new ones. You will teach New Testament courses at undergraduate level (English and Greek options) as well as postgraduate (masters) courses. The role will also involve supervising upper-level undergraduate, masters and doctoral research students. Our ideal candidate will be an emerging or established international scholar.

The location of these roles could be at either our Henderson Tāmaki Makaurau or Ōtautahi Christchurch campuses and will be negotiated with the successful applicant. These roles are full-time and report to the Head of School (Theology).

Specifically, your responsibilities will include:

  • Undertaking research-led undergraduate and postgraduate teaching (face to face and online)
  • Contributing to the development, planning, revision and implementation of a high- quality, visionary curriculum.
  • Publishing papers or other scholarly works in peer-reviewed academic sources or similar
  • Engaging with the broader scholarly and professional communities, contributing to the wider research and professional environments.
  • Supervising and supporting the research activities of postgraduate students.
  • Participating in church and stakeholder initiatives that advance the profile and reputation of College and engaging in the communal life and activities of the College.

Who We’re Looking For

The successful candidates will have:

  • Demonstrable commitment to Laidlaw’s Statement of Faith and to its evangelical heritage.
  • A research-based doctorate in Theology or a related discipline, ideally with the use of qualitative methodology.
  • An active involvement in a local Christian church and in Christian initiatives in the wider community.
  • A commitment to mentoring students and providing an appropriate level of pastoral care
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate complex concepts and information effectively to varied audiences. Leadership skills that model dedication, enthusiasm, excellence, integrity and authenticity
