Memories and stories flowed at our “Come Say Goodbye” events at the Henderson campus during the week of 4-9 September. As Laidlaw College prepares to move from 80 Central Park Drive to central Henderson later in 2023, this week was an opportunity for former staff and students to come and reminisce and farewell their old “home” or workplace. 

Photos and videos covering the 62-year history of the campus were on display in the old dining room – a place itself full of memories of thousands of mealtime conversations, meals eaten and duties done! Reflective stations were set up to give opportunity to remember those who had gone before, to write memories, and to pray. We were delighted to welcome some who had been founding students at the campus opening in 1961, through to more recent graduates. One guest turned out to be the architect of the library built above the dining room, and two others were staff who had wired the campus for internet, and were intrigued to find their wiring still in place! 

For some, it was a time to reconnect with old classmates; for others a more emotional experience of saying goodbye to a place where they had experienced deep formation. 

A display of photos and interior design of the new campus pointed to the upcoming move, and we look forward to welcoming alumni into our new home in 2024.
