Secondary school teachers are critical for inspiring our young people to develop the knowledge and skills needed for their future lives and the world of work.

Children in Aotearoa New Zealand need teachers who are creative and innovative professionals, with expert subject knowledge and a firm understanding of how students learn and grow in the classroom environment. They also need teachers who are competent and highly relational; committed to working closely with students, whanau and communities; and who hold their worth and potential as human beings in the highest regard.

At Laidlaw College, we are committed to training and equipping high calibre teachers. Our graduates are teachers and senior managers in schools (state, integrated and private schools), not-for-profit organisations, and community and government agencies.

For 2024, we have removed tuition fees for students enrolling in our Graduate Diploma in Education (Secondary), and welcome inquiries from those considering training or retraining as a registered secondary teacher.

Our one-year programme offers an immersive, grounded learning experience that will equip you as a teacher, and form you for wider leadership. The GradDipEd is intensely practical, with immersive classroom placements; it is designed to help you serve in Aotearoa’s unique cultural contexts; and it is grounded in the Bible and Christian theology and formation throughout, graduating students who can integrate Christlikeness into their professional practice.
