Christchurch Graduation

GRADUATION DINNER

Date TBC

We would love you to join us for a graduation dinner the week of Graduation. We have yet to set a date, but we will send out a ‘Save-the-date’ once we have finalised the details.

This will be a night of catching up with your fellow graduates and Laidlaw staff and celebrating your achievements. We invite you to bring along a loved one, a spouse/partner, or someone who has been an important part of your journey. This is a free event.

Keep an eye out for information to come in next couple of months.

GRADUATION CEREMONY

Friday 8 December 2023

Christchurch Community Church (Christchurch Chinese Church),
286 Greers Road, Bishopdale

7:30pm start

To register for this prestigious occasion, please apply to graduate and select the “I wish to graduate at the Christchurch ceremony in Dec 2023” option.

You should plan to arrive no later than 6.45pm at the ceremony venue so that we can brief you for the event. Please ask your guests to be seated by 7.25pm for a 7.30pm start. A light supper will follow the ceremony.

It is optional to attend the ceremony, but if you wish to receive certification of your achievement, you must still apply to graduate. If this applies, please select a “NO CEREMONY” option that suits you.

The application cut-off date is Wednesday 1 November.

REGALIA

Laidlaw College hires academic regalia on your behalf, and it is available to collect from Laidlaw during campus hours the days prior to the ceremony. You will wear your required regalia pieces over formal clothing. Please plan to return all regalia to us directly after the ceremony; our vendor requires we honour a strict return schedule. To hire the regalia for you, we require a few measurements.

ACADEMIC GOWN

  • Your height __________cm (measure from top of head to floor without shoes)

MORTAR BOARD (HAT) (only for Bachelor, Graduate Diploma, PGDip, and MTh students)

  • Your head-size _______ cm (measure around the head, just above your eyebrows) If you don’t have a tape measure you can either take a measure initially with a piece of string and then measure with a ruler.

Laidlaw supplies the hoods for the qualifications earned with us; please remind us if you have earned more than one qualification with Laidlaw.

If you would like to hire a surplus hood to represent a previous degree from another institution, please contact us with the details promptly and we will endeavor to secure the hire – the hire fee for a non-Laidlaw hood is $20.

Please email your head-size and/or height to [email protected] and make your payments no later than Friday 10 November.

If paying by internet banking, please include the following information and let us know by email that you have paid for our records.

BIO’s

At the graduation evening we read a brief bio about each graduating student. This makes it more interesting (and merry!) for the many people who come to the evening. We would like each of you to write 50-70 words introducing yourself and sharing a little about your Laidlaw journey and what has stood out for you. You can make it funny or heartfelt or both. This will be read over you as you come up to the stage - we really like to personalise your moment in the spotlight. Please send your bio to [email protected] no later than Friday 24 November (Bullet points are acceptable).

INVITATIONS

You will receive invitations to graduation that you can distribute to anyone you wish. Currently, there are no restrictions on how many people you can invite, however if you plan on inviting a large number of people (10+), please speak with Mele, as we may need to put a limit on that.
